Her childhood was spent a few blocks from the Green Mill Lounge, Aragon Ballroom and Uptown Theater and within a philanthropic, musical family and community. Gospel, jazz, folk, blues and the sounds of a uniquely diverse neighborhood permeated her surroundings and pointed her sensibilities towards timelessness and mystery. After 2 years studying mathematics, she began touring and performing in various groups, most recently and for the longest period, with partner Cory Chisel. In early 2014 she embarked on her first solo project, recording with Norah Jones as producer. Shortly after completion, a surprising twist brought her first child and a new opportunity of stewardship in Northeast Wisconsin. Her focus shifted for 3 years, while she learned to care for an 80 year old former monastery on 11 acres of land and formed an Arts Foundation to support artist residencies in the space. Inspired by her new surroundings and immersion in nature and motherhood, she also created a natural skin care line based on midwifery techniques from the 1800’s with partner, Jen Auerbach. Her debut album was released in August 2018 by Refuge Foundation for the Arts. ================================================================ A classically trained musician and gifted lyricist, Elle Winstons music draws from her blues filled Arizona beginnings. Her sound is a penetrating blend of soulful, jazz inspired, American roots music. On her 2017 debut album, The Buy Back, the powerhouse vocalist explores identity, power, and vulnerability through the lens of her life in Brooklyn. The Buy Back has received coverage from Billboard, Elton John’s “The Rocket Hour” on Beats 1 Radio, AFROPUNK, Curve Magazine, and Singers Room. Elle has previously releases two EP’s, Who Said It Was Simple? in 2011 and Uncertainty in 2013. She has supported a wide range of artists, including Gil-Scott Heron, Carl Thomas, and Joan Jett. In the last two years, Elle has been featured at the Billboard Lounge at Barclays Center, the Apollo Music Cafe, City Winery NYC and on Apple Beats 1 Radio. Most recently, she completed her first nationwide tour – highlights included the Mile of Music Festival in Appleton, WI; Valley Bar in Phoenix, AZ; The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles, CA; and National Sawdust in Brooklyn, NY.
