Matt Blake is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, California. He is also a current tour manager for Lucinda Williams, which he describes as being like a daily masters class into the soul of a song. Matt came to the Refuge in mid-November to record songs for his upcoming record. “When I got to the Refuge I thought I had my songs ready to record. Then I started to sink into the solitude and beauty of the environment. The songs began to become more themselves, and I realized I need to dig in a little more. Next thing I knew I was writing all new songs, and rewriting old ones.” Matt described his residency as,
“a tremendous experience to be able to focus on nothing but the songs. It is a rare and very unique experience.”
We want to say thank you to all who attended An Evening with Manchester Orchestra Acoustic in our chapel on Sunday. Andy Hull and Rob McDowell performed for an intimate audience delivering an incredibly special evening at the Refuge. You can check out the first four songs here.
